Evacuating mushrooms at Prochamp

Prochamp is an international producer of preserved mushrooms with several production sites in the Netherlands. Prochamp controls the entire production chain from preparing and growing compost to marketing preserved products worldwide.

Question

Prochamp has involved IVS in the new-build location in Kerkdriel where mushrooms are grown. After cultivation, the mushrooms are automatically placed in crates on pallets. These pallets then need to undergo an evacuation cycle in which the products absorb water with additives. This ensures that the products do not float in the next process and improves the quality of the final product. Prochamp has asked IVS to supply the vacuum chamber for the evacuation cycle.

Solution

IVS has supplied a stainless steel vacuum chamber where the pallets are automatically placed in the vacuum chamber, after which the doors close. Then, the chamber is completely filled with water, and the chamber is brought to the correct pressure. In the control system, all process parameters can be set, and the correct program is automatically selected per cycle by the upstream control system, ensuring that the products always undergo the correct treatment. By applying the right techniques, the supplied vacuum chamber is a step forward in terms of sound emission, capacity, energy consumption, process control and labor.
